The California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and parallel state clean fuels programs directly affect any organization selling, supplying, or producing transportation fuels for use in participating jurisdictions (California, Oregon, Washington, and now New Mexico). Organizations may also choose to opt-in to the programs to gain marketable credits. Locus Technologies was among the first accredited verification bodies for the LCFS program. Since its inauguration, four Locus team members have been certified by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) to provide third-party LCFS verification services and they have completed nearly 50 LCFS verifications.

Locus is also accredited by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the state’s Clean Fuels Program (CFP) and Qualified Verifier under the Federal Clean Fuels Production Tax Credit (45Z) and Clean Hydrogen Production Tax Credit (45V). For these programs, we leverage our expertise in greenhouse gas accounting methodologies to accurately assess the qualifications and carbon intensity of applicable fuels. A similar program is taking shape in New Mexico, and as the demand for low-carbon solutions continues to grow, similar programs will likely emerge in other jurisdictions. California’s LCFS program and its West Coast parallel programs span the common petroleum-based fuels CARBOB and diesel, as well as alternative fuels ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, alternative jet fuel, propane (fossil or renewable), compressed and liquefied natural gas, electricity (grid or low-carbon), and hydrogen (from specific production sources).
